MR Kurup Memorial Lecture

The chapter conducts the MR Kurup Memorial Lecture in the fond of memory of Padmashree M. R. Kurup, who was the spirit behind every activity of the chapter. It is conducted along with the annual general meeting during April - May every year. Eminent persons from various leading organizations are invited to deliver the Memorial Lecture every year.

Sri MR Kurup was the founder of the first solid rocket propellant plant in the country at VSSC Thiruvananthapuram in early Sixties. He had held many positions in VSSC, such as General Manager, Deputy Director and Chief Executive in the area of Chemicals, Materials and Propulsion. He was instrumental in the establishment of the biggest solid propellant production plant at SHAR Centre Sriharikotta in the late seventies. Sri. MR Kurup retired from service as Director, SHAR Centre, presently known as Sathish Dhawan Space Centre.

MR Kurup Memorial Lecture and Annual Technical Meet April 24, 2009

MR Kurup Memorial Lecture 2009 was delivered by Shri PS Sastri, Director, ISRO Safety Office, ISRO Head Quarters, Bangalore. Shri. Sastri is presently holding the office which was once started by Sri. MR Kurup at ISRO Headquarters Bangalore. Sastri in his address reminiscent the contribution of Sri MR Kurup in the field of Safety, which he had nurtured in his professional carrier in the development of solid propellant motors for the present prestigious launch vehicles of ISRO. Sri PS Sastri spoke on the safety aspects in a space programme in general and presented a detailed account on the safety aspects envisaged in the Indian Human Space Programme. The lecture was well received by all the members. 

Annual Technical Meet 2009

Smt. Novma Money, Human Relations & Mental Health Professional gave an eloquent lecture on Adolescent Management, with many case studies, theory and humour. It was well received by all the members and their families present. Smt. Novma Money brought out the problems faced by teenagers and the parents' role in the making of good children. There was a good interaction between the family members. 

Shri MR Kurup Memorial Lecture And Annual Technical Meet on May 24, 2008

Shri MR Kurup Memorial Lecture was delivery by Shri MC Dattan a close associate of Shri MR Kurup when both were working in Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. He spoke on the technical acumen as well the excellent visionary approach of Shri MR Kurup in the development of rocket motors and related nondestructive testing techniques for clearing these motors for flight.

Shri MC Dattan, Associate Director, Satish Dhawan Space Centre delivered an eloquent lecture on the Development of Facilities and Propellant Processing Techniques for S 200 project, one of the major component of MK3 GSLV, the next generation of ISRO's Launch Vehicle. He highlighted the criticalities, hazardous nature and large sizes of the facilities in the processing of propellants for this project. The photographs displayed were a treat to watch in understanding the monumental work involved in such aerospace activities

Annual Technical Meet - 2008

Shri S Venugopal, Executive Director, Brahmos Aerospace, gave a detail on the organisation structure and presented an overview of the Brahmos Missile. He elaborated the future plans in expanding the existing facilities to cater the requirements in the fabrication high end products for aerospace industries.

Dr E Shaji, Central Ground Water Department, Govt. of India presented "Water and its Conservation". He reached the audience very easily through a variety of information on the use and abuse of water resources in our country. He presented the presence of ground water and its contamination in many areas leading to diseases. He highlighted the importance of water as a lifeline in our lives.
